Afternoon tea at Gingers, The Welsh Bakery, Hwlffordd~ Haverfordwest

Possibly the best afternoon tea ever

The high tea at Fortnum & Mason’s is not included in the list… our friends Bear was there. Like this afternoon tea the scones were plain, nowhere else has offered up plain scones – plain scones are the best.

What was so special about this afternoon tea? A beautifully laid out table to arrive to, the food filled stand brought out quickly along with Earl Grey tea – a very wide range of teas is available. This was a sparkling afternoon tea so there was prosecco. No car driving was involved.

There had been a request for no meat (seafood and dairy were acceptable). There were tiny rolled up salmon sandwiches, generous prawn sandwiches and excellent egg & cress. And then the sweet stuff – as mentioned the gold level of scones: plain, with butter, clotted cream a berry jam and a fresh strawberry. The delightful surprise was the small custard slice – a favourite and never before presented at an afternoon tea.

The covid precautions were excellent, there were large clear panels between the 3 tables on the first floor. The staff were lovely and friendly. The tea needs to be booked 24 hours in advance and they do a takeaway version too.

Howarth, Bronte Bridge & Top Withens with Yorkshire curd tart....

As there was snow yesterday [on the cherry blossom] it was a reminder that there hadn't been a post about a snowy day, January 22nd, in West Yorkshire, Howarth, Bronte Bridge & Top Withens. Refreshments first were sought at the Villette Coffee House & Bakery - curd tart was required and found! Yorkshire Parkin was tried on the way back

Lunch at Pwnc

A visit to a new place PWNC in Trefdaeth / Newport. Highly recommended by our friend. Coffee was consumed [unusually], very good. And lunch: coconut dahl. Friend had avocado on toast. There is a climbing wall for young visitors, which appeals to Flo as she started rock climbing aged one [where is the photo of her on the rockface? Here's one of her aged 8 demonstrating to (boy) scouts...].
